Celebrated California video artist Eric Saks visits Exploded View to present videos that investigate outsider mysteries and fractured narratives that wind through the Mojave Desert. Saks’ media practice has focused on phone phreaking, media jamming, gun control, hazardous waste, underground youth lifestyle, and spirituality. Saks will screen Creosote, You Talk/I Buy and the premiere of Eidolon (featuring EV fave Bill Daniel!) and more. Local artists duo Verbo•bala (Adam Cooper-Terán & Logan Phillips) employ poetry and video in their piece Sonoran Strange: Cemamagĭ Doʼag, a work that explores the duality of  indigenous knowledge versus colonial science in a ritualistic study of Tucson’s sacred Tumamoc Hill.

Tonight’s program gathers a collection of works by the extraordinary Tucson video artist Nika Kaiser who has been busy sculpting the ethos of T-Town image/sound through her recent videos with Human Behavior, Gabriel Sullivan, Burning Palms & Prom Body. Come view a weaving together of Kaiser’s new works with a selection of artists films that link landscape, movement and technology to the supernatural human experience. Featuring Kaiser’s own films (including some Tucson premiers) + works by Innaritu and the LA Dance Project, video pioneer Joan Jonas and more!

Qalhexico: Video performance + late night SURPRISE Black Metal Trance Film!!

QALHEXICO presents “Da’ath I,” an audio-visual spell cast against the Worldwide Mad Deadly Gangster Gods of War & Industry. The ceremonial performance is a live mix of drone music & esoteric video projections. Invoked by members Samantha Angiulo, R.A Sanchez, Heather Gray, and Adam Cooper-Terán. QALHEXICO is a coven of drone occultists from Tucson and Phoenix engaged in psychic battle against the Worldwide Mad Deadly Gangster Gods of War & Industry.  The second portion of the evening, EV presents a stunning feature length film on utopian society, ecology and Black Metal.

Tonight’s show, curated by Dave Wright, features electro-acoustic experimental noise with Vox Barbara from San Francisco and locals Skincage, G and Not Breathing. Painter, trickster, social critic, and controversial public performance artist, The Reverend Steven Johnson Leyba is a folk hero, loved and hated by many. Adam Cooper-Terán’s PAINing POORtraits follows Leyba as he reclaims and re-invents his work, giving friends and muses alike the opportunity to destroy his paintings. In his examination of destruction, transformation, reclamation, and rebirth, Leyba takes on various enemies, from ex-lovers to the Monsanto Corporation, even himself as the hero and fool.
